Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said the United States would help European nations transition away from dependence on Russian energy in response to President Vladimir V. Putin’s efforts to “weaponize” natural gas supplies to the continent.
In his first address as sovereign, King Charles III expressed “profound sorrow” over the death of Queen Elizabeth II and pledged to serve Britain with “loyalty, respect and love.”
Though mourning and grief were visible in Britain’s capital on Friday, some young Britons were more muted in their reaction to an institution that many called increasingly irrelevant.
