Vail Jazz has just announced the lineup for the annual Vail Jazz Party, which takes place over Labor Day weekend (Sept. 2-5). The event, now in its 28th year, will be a celebration of the legacy of Jeff Clayton, who was a vital part of Vail Jazz for many years. The Vail Jazz Orchestra Celebrates Jeff Clayton big band will feature music that was composed and/or performed by the late saxophonist.
This year’s event features a house band comprising John Clayton, Dick Oatts, Terell Stafford, Wycliffe Gordon, Bill Cunliffe, and Lewis Nash. Among the ensembles also performing that weekend are the Cyrille Aimée Trio; Cyrus Chestnut Trio with Stacey Dillard; Jeff Hamilton Trio; Vail Jazz Alumni Sextet featuring Isaiah Thompson, David Wong, Patrick Bartley, Ryan Porter, Anthony Hervey, and Christian McGhee; and many others. Soloists include Ken Peplowski, Niki Haris, Sean Jones, Adrian Cunningham, and more. For further information about the Jazz Party, go here.
