On Sept. 20 the Greater Faith Baptist Church community celebrated the 30th pastoral anniversary and the retirement of their pastor, Apostle Leah E. White.
More than 200 gathered for the gala, hosted at New Psalmist Baptist Church, including a multitude of apostles, bishops, pastors and elders from across the nation. Friends and family members rejoiced with all in attendance at the event, showing White with the agape love she so richly deserved.
Throughout the night, White was recognized for her 30 years of service as pastor at Greater Faith Baptist Church. In that time she earned numerous accolades for her service to the community.
White is known for her work as a public and private school educator, administrator and her overall unselfish service with other clergy members. She mentored and encouraged members of the church both in and outside of the geographic boundaries of the state of Maryland.
White acknowledged that, along with each of them, none of her success would have been possible without the faithful support and partnership of her husband, Deacon Russell E. White, who has been an integral part of the journey all along the road.
As witnesses to White’s dedication to the community spoke, it was clear that she had a major impact on a vast number of clergy, who all referred to her as a “mentor” and a “friend.”
The night culminated in tributes from clergy, friends and family. Tributes in song were given by Deaconess Linda Harris, of New Psalmist Baptist Church, and Elder Anthony, of Brown of Morning Star Baptist Church.
Instrumental serenades by Saxophonist Brother Isaac Parham and pianist J.D. Alston moved the crowed. The event even included a comedian, Min. Robert Richardson, who brought cheer to the audience.
The sermon was delivered by Bishop Walter S. Thomas Sr., pastor Emeritus of the New Psalmist Baptist Church. This event was chaired by Deacon Monica Sapp-Willis, Deacon Ernestine Smith, Sister Yvette Hopkins-Wiley, Deacon Hattie Clark; and the wonderful cuisine of the night was provided by New Psalmist Catering, under the guidance of Sister Holly A. Archer.
Overall, the evening proved to be one filled with love, admiration and thanks for a leader who has served with humility and respect.
