*A video clip featuring Kamala Harris delivering a confusing and awkward speech has gained traction on social media.
On July 22, 2024, an X/Twitter user named CherylWroteIt posted the video where Harris appears to say: “Today is today, and yesterday is today yesterday. Tomorrow will be today tomorrow, so live today so the future today will be as the past today, as it is tomorrow.”
As Newsweek reports, the post criticizes Harris and her suitability for office.
The viral clip mimics a phrase Harris has been previously mocked for: “I can imagine what can be and be unburdened by what has been.” However, the footage is not authentic.
According to Newsweek, the video is an AI-generated version of a speech Harris made in 2023, and her words do not appear in the official White House transcript. The video uses footage from a pro-choice speech Harris gave at Howard University in 2023, which was criticized for its verbose nature.
I’ve seen this compilation of Kamala saying “what can be unburdened by what has been” before, but this time I could only make it halfway through. It’s no wonder she dropped out of the primary so early in 2020. She needed to avoid embarrassment. pic.twitter.com/YSUPY3KlmS

Harris said: “I think it’s very important, as you have heard from so many incredible leaders, for us at every moment in time—and certainly this one—to see the moment in time in which we exist and are present, and to be able to contextualize it, to understand where we exist in the history and in the moment as it relates not only to the past but the future.”
The New York Post called parts of the speech a “word salad.”
Meanwhile, the Harris campaign raised $81 million in 24 hours on Monday, July 22—one day after President Joe Biden exited the 2024 presidential race and endorsed the VP as the Democratic nominee. This is the largest single-day fundraising total in presidential history, PEOPLE reports. The organization Win with Black Women raised $1.6 million.
“The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris represents exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections,” Harris campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said in a statement.
“Already, we are seeing a broad and diverse coalition come together to support our critical work of talking to the voters that will decide this election,” Munoz added.
“There is a groundswell behind Kamala Harris, and Donald Trump is terrified because he knows his divisive, unpopular agenda can’t stand up to the Vice President’s record and vision for the American people,” Munoz said.
