*Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate.
NBC News reports that Walz, 60, currently in his second term and a former member of Congress, is expected to strengthen the Democratic ticket with his appeal to white working-class voters in Rust Belt states.
Walz has achieved significant progressive policy milestones, which include laws protecting abortion rights, legalizing recreational marijuana, restricting gun access, and legal protection to trans youths. Additionally, Walz has expanded paid family leave, provided universal school meals, and capped insulin prices in Minnesota.
In a statement Tuesday morning, Harris said “it’s great” to have Walz joining her presidential campaign. “As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his,” she added.
The Trump campaign reacted to the news about Harris’s VP pick in a statement, Newsweek reports.
“It’s no surprise that San Francisco Liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running-mate – Walz has spent his governorship trying to reshape Minnesota in the image of the Golden State,” the statement reads. “While Walz pretends to support Americans in the Heartland, when the cameras are off, he believes that rural America is ‘mostly cows and rocks.’”
The statement continued, “From proposing his own carbon-free agenda, to suggesting stricter emission standards for gas-powered cars, and embracing policies to allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide. If Walz won’t tell voters the truth, we will: just like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerously liberal extremist, and the Harris-Walz California dream is every American’s nightmare.”
Meanwhile, we reported earlier that Allan Lichtman, the “Prediction Professor” renowned for accurately predicting almost every presidential election since 1984, forecasts that Harris will win the 2024 election. Lichtman correctly predicted Donald Trump’s 2016 victory and Joe Biden’s 2020 win. He relies on his “Keys to the White House” formula for his predictions.
Harris described the upcoming election as a decision between “two different visions” for the nation during her recent speech to the American Federation of Teachers in Houston, Texas, CBS News reports.
“Today we face a choice between two very different visions for our nations, one focused on the future and the other focused on the past,” Harris said. “And we are focused on the future.”
Harris outlined her plans if elected to the White House, which includes all the typical Democratic talking points such as enacting legislation to ban assault weapons and ensuring access to abortion.
