*Anderson .Paak premiered his directorial debut feature film, “K-Pops!” at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month and followed up the milestone with the grand opening of his new restaurant and music venue, Andy’s in West Hollywood, California.
LA Eater reports that the musician teamed up with renowned nightlife brothers Mark and Jonnie Houston to launch his new jazz and R&B club, enlisting chef Chris Oh to create a supper club menu for the venue that opened on September 25.
“I want to use my platform for good, and I want to tell these stories in different mediums and in different ways. So, it feels really cool to see all of these things happening in perfect timing,”.Paak told Thrillist.
The new joint occupies the Doheny Room and Sa’Moto space on Santa Monica Boulevard, offering guests a “vintage look that .Paak says will feel like a home studio — or his mother’s basement,” LA Eater writes.
.Paak is curating Andy’s as a place for him and his friends to come together and chill out.
“We create spaces where we create new friendships. Us building this is going to continue that journey together,” said Mark.
“Ever since I moved to Los Angeles, I always wanted to have my own place where people like me could play and musicians could come and hang out. LA is kind of a hard city to find a good place where there’s good food, good music, and a good atmosphere. Coming up in LA, I always wanted to make a place like that because those were the places I went to get our music heard and to hang out with friends,” .Paak said.
“You hear about celebrities opening ‘this’ or being a part of ‘that,’ and they’re really not a part of it. They just throw their name on it. But with this [.Paak] surprised me. He’s so involved and he has good taste which is a plus. I could never imagine working with someone and having to fight about the littlest things because they don’t get it,” said Jonnie. “We’re so in tune and he genuinely enjoys it.”
Mark added, “It’s fun to have someone else involved in our process. That’s going to help elevate and execute a really good, unique product, which is going to be different from all of our other ones because we didn’t really ever have that additional person involved with us.”
